EDU 355 Language Arts Lab I

1 Credit

Students apply their knowledge of the teaching of reading at age-appropriate levels by tutoring children in need of remediation who have been assigned by area schools. Students have the opportunity to teach, obtain feedback, provide children with corrective information, analyze reading problems, and implement action plans. Students spend the semester working within classrooms and schools, completing projects that demonstrate an understanding and application of theory.

Prerequisite(s): EDU 202 , EDU 220 , and EDU 248 ; concurrent with EDU 345 . This course can only be taken after the student has received an official Letter of Acceptance to the Education major.

NOTE: All students pursuing Early Elementary (PK–4) and Special Education (PK–8) Certification are required to successfully complete ECE 101, Teaching as a Profession: PK–4, before taking any other required course in the major. Students pursuing Secondary Teacher Certification in either Biology/General Science, English, or Social Studies are required to successfully complete EDU 101, Teaching as a Profession, before taking any other required course in the major. roof of a current FBI Fingerprint Clearance, a Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance, and a Pennsylvania Criminal Background Clearance is required and must be submitted to the Dean of Education and Human Service’s office in order to begin any ECE, EDU, or SPEC course. No student may begin these classes without all current clearances.
