ECE 312 Social Studies & Social Justice Methods

3 Credits

This course focuses on preparing students to become effective early elementary social studies educators. The course primes pre-service teachers to support learners in engaging content knowledge, intellectual skills, and civic values that are necessary for fulfilling the responsibilities of citizenship in a participatory democracy. Special attention is given to developing as an educator with a lifelong commitment to cultural awareness and competence. The course will emphasize reflective practice regarding positionality and use a multicultural paradigm rooted in contemporary historical scholarship.

NOTE: There is a required field component (EDU 125 ) for this course. All students are required to have valid clearances to participate in field experience.  Students may not take this course unless they have been officially accepted to the Dual Certification Education major.
