SPEC 382 Low Incidence Disabilities

3 Credits

This course introduces the characteristics, assessment, and identification processes for disabilities that occur at the lowest frequency among students who receive special education services. Focus will be given to more severe disabilities like intellectual disabilities, down syndrome, physical and medical disabilities. Students will explore the common characteristics associated with these disabilities and examine the educator’s role in engaging evidence-based practices. Frameworks for Universal Design for Learning, inclusive practices, and transitional programs to maximize the potential of all students from birth to 22 will be presented.

NOTE: There is a required field component (EDU 125 ) for this course.  All students are required to have valid clearances to participate in field experience.
