PHIL 214 Philosophy of Education

3 Credits

The course is designed to explore fundamental issues related to education. Education will be considered in broad terms. We will explore education in light of what it means to be human, what it means to be a citizen, and what it means to be good. Education in the formal sense of schooling, both at the primary and university level, will be investigated philosophically. The question of what ought to be taught is of concern. The ideal form of control in an educational system-the state, a voucher system, or home schooling-will also be reviewed.

Prerequisite(s): PHIL 102  and THEO 104  and completed 55 credits.
