122 Credits Required for CDM, B.A. Degree

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, the graduate will earn a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Communication and Digital Media and will be able to do the following:

  • Demonstrate experiential knowledge of the contemporary communication field through curricular and co-curricular opportunities.
  • Design and create effective audio and video content.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  •  Analyze communication and digital media practices using a value driven, ethical framework.

Progression Criteria/Degree Requirements

In order to remain in the major, a student must not earn a grade less than C in any major course more than two times. For example, a student earns less than C in two major courses. The student retakes each course and earns a C or above. If the same student earns less than C in a third major course, she/he may be counseled out of the major.

Admission Criteria From Another Major

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and meet with their academic advisor.

Internship Requirement

Students are required to complete a minimum of three (3) credits of Internship experience in areas related to Communication and Digital Media.  See  CDM 495 Internship  in the Course Descriptions  section of this catalog for specific details pertaining to this experience.

Emphasis 1: Production and Digital Broadcasting


One person is on camera or microphone while hundreds are behind the scenes. This emphasis prepares students to enter the worlds of video, audio, TV, radio and film as directors, technicians, editors, runners, promoters, producers, and on-air talent.

*At least three credits must be taken at the 300-level and at least three credits must be taken at the 400-level - (Note pre-requisites where applicable)

Emphasis 2: Journalism & Digital Media


Technology changes but the need for professional, responsible, accurate journalism remains constant and critical. This emphasis prepares students to report and publish in print, broadcast or online. Learn to create news and features as text, audio, photos and video.

* At least three credits must by taken at the 300-level and at least three credits must be taken at the 400-level

Emphasis 3: Digital & Strategic Communication


Integrated messaging and coordinated branding – it’s essential for multi-national corporations and mom-and-pop shops. This emphasis prepares students to advance an organization’s relationships, mission and brand through public relations and related fields.

* At least three credits must be taken at the 300-level and at least three credits myst be taken at the 400-level.

Minor Program outside of CDM (18 Credits)


CDM majors are required to complete a minor program to fulfill the requirements of the Communication and Digital Media Degree.

Minor programs outside of the CDM major are highly recommended.
