The Master of Science Degree in Nursing: Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care (AGNP) prepares graduates to provide holistic, patient-centered primary care to individuals across the adult age spectrum from adolescence to older adults. Graduates are prepared to use evidence-based health promotion, disease prevention, and health protection treatment strategies to diagnose and manage adolescent, adult, older adult, and vulnerable adult populations at all levels of health and illness including end-of-life care. Clinical experiences take place in a variety of settings across the continuum of care with expert clinicians serving as preceptors. Graduates of this program are eligible to apply for the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner national certification examination and for state licensure as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner.
Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner End of Program Learning Outcomes
At the completion of the Program, the graduate will have the ability to :
- Synthesize advanced knowledge from the humanities, sciences, and nursing science to promote optimal health outcomes for patients, families, and populations.
- Analyze evidence based findings to support advanced practice.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and other health care providers to coordinate and manage care.
- Evaluate the safety, quality, and cost effectiveness of care.
- Integrate the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nursing into the role of the advanced practice nurse.
- Construct a professional development plan.
- Integrate technology and information systems to support learning and optimal patient outcomes.
- Analyze the role of the Nurse Practitioner in health policy development and implementation.
- Apply leadership in the role of the advanced practice nurse.
- Integrate rolse-specific nurse practitioner competencies to deliver holistic care.
