EDU 770 Qualitative Research

Students will explore the philosophical underpinnings of ethnographic, case study, and action research methods and practice these approaches to qualitative research. Students will identify, review, and appraise empirical studies that employ qualitative methods and construct a conceptual framework for their own small-scope qualitative pilot study. Students will plan and execute data collection methods while considering issues of research ethics and researcher positionality particular to qualitative approaches. This course culminates with a research report in which students revise their qualitative research design based on preliminary data collection and analysis.
