The Master of Science Degree in Nursing: Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care (AGNP) prepares graduates to provide holistic, patient-centered primary care to individuals across the adult age spectrum from adolescence to older adults. Graduates are prepared to use evidence-based health promotion, disease prevention, and health protection treatment strategies to diagnose and manage adolescent, adult, older adult, and vulnerable adult populations at all levels of health and illness including end-of-life care. Clinical experiences take place in a variety of settings across the continuum of care with expert clinicians serving as preceptors. Graduates of this program are eligible to apply for the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner national certification examination and for state certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner.
Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care Student Learning Outcomes
At the completion of the Program, the graduate will have the ability to :
- Synthesize and apply advanced knowledge derived from physiological, developmental, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual dimensions.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical decision-making, using evidence-based findings to effect change within the health care system.
- Collaborate effectively with patients, families, and other health care providers in the coordination of comprehensive, holistic care.
- Evaluate the safety, quality, and cost effectiveness of care in analysis of nursing practice outcomes.
- Formulate and integrate a humanistic, culturally competent, and ethical code of conduct into professional practice.
- Construct a professional development plan for future practice with a commitment to lifelong learning and growth.
- Use technology and information systems to support learning and evaluate outcomes across environments.
- Analyze the role of the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner in health policy development and implementation.
- Integrate Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner competencies to deliver holistic care to adolescents, adults, and older adults.
