Overview

The Master’s in Sport Business was designed with input from over 50 industry professionals to prepare you for career growth in sport business roles such as sales, fundraising & development, facility & event management, social media & digital communication, marketing, partnerships & activation, and leadership. This program is similar to an MBA, but specifically focused on the development of these skills in the sport business field in all areas: professional sports, collegiate & high school athletics; youth & community-based sports; brands & agencies and Esports.

Program Design and Required Courses

The Master of Science in Sport Business is designed in a unique accelerated format which enables students to complete the entire program in as little as 12 months, through a variety of delivery options.

The program consists of 30 required credits (9 classes and a final project). The 9 traditional classes are delivered as 3-credit courses in intensive seven-week modules. Our Master’s in Sport Business is available online, on campus, as well as a hybrid:

  • If you are taking the course on campus and are not able to attend one of the classes, you can tune in virtually during class time, or watch it later at your convenience.
  • If you prefer to work through the course at your own pace, you can watch the recordings and complete the assignments.

All courses are highly interactive taught by faculty with extensive sport industry experience.  The final course, SB 600, offers flexibility to each student with one of 3 options: Master’s Thesis, Internship-style immersion experience or consulting project with an external partner.

Students may enter the program at five different times throughout the academic year: Fall Mini Term 1, Fall Mini Term 2, Spring Mini Term1, Spring Mini Term 2, or the Summer Term.

  • A completed Graduate Student Application, online through www.neumann.edu.
  • Transcripts from all institutions which granted the Bachelor’s degree.
  • Have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0.  Outstanding applicants whose GPAs are less that 3.0 may be considered for conditional acceptance.

Up to 6 graduate credits may be considered for transfer, if they serve as suitable, documented academic substitutions. An official academic transcript and course syllabi will be needed for evaluation of possible transfer credits.

Once all admission materials have been received and processed through the Office of Admissions, the graduate Program Director will arrange for an interview, if appropriate, following a review of all candidate credentials.

Progression/Retention/Graduation Requirements

To progress in the Master of Science in Sport Business program, all students must maintain an overall “B” average (cumulative 3.00 GPA) in all courses and demonstrate satisfactory participation in the program. Completion of all degree requirements for the program must not exceed three years. Exemption to this time limitation must be applied for in a written request to the Director of the program. Graduation from the program is contingent upon the student (1) submitting a signed Application for Graduation form to the Registrar on or before the date specified in the Academic Calendar; and (2) successful completion of all course work including the requirements of the final course, SB 600, with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

Failing a course: A student may have no more than one grade of “C” or “C+” in a given class, throughout the entire program, and the student may retake that course, one time, if necessary to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0. If a student receives a second “C” or “C+”, in any course, they may be dismissed from the program. A grade of “D” or “F” in any class will result in dismissal from the program.

Academic Advisor: The Program Director, also serves as the academic advisor for all students in the MS Sport Business program. Questions regarding specific course work should be directed to the course instructor. All other academic questions or advising requests should be forwarded to the Program Director, Dr. Julie D.
