ECE 214 Language & Early Literacy Development3 Credits
This course focuses on the recent research, theory, and practice concerning language and literacy development in early childhood. Participants will study the phonetic, semantic, syntactic, morphemic, and pragmatic aspects of language knowledge acquired by young children. Connections to early literacy, specifically structured literacy, will be made. Concrete and practical ways for scaffolding the development of both oral and written language will be provided. Students will be able to observe language and literacy development and utilize learned strategies in their field experience.
Prerequisite(s): ECE 101 or EDU 101
Writing Intensive Course
NOTE: There is a required field component for this course. All students are required to have valid clearances to participate in field experience.
