122 Credits required for Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics Degree

A Cyber Crime Center was recently established on campus through a partnership with the University, Aston Police, and the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office. The Cyber Crime Center includes a digital forensics lab examining electronic evidence. Students will have the opportunity to apply for internships in the lab. The digital forensics curriculum will prepare students not only for this internship but also for work as digital forensics examiners either in law enforcement or in the private sector once they graduate.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the Major in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics the graduate will:

  1. Understand how to conduct digital investigations that conform to accepted professional standards based on the investigative process: identification, preservation, examination, analysis, and reporting.
  2. Build the skills to identify and document potential security breaches of computer data that suggest violations of legal, ethical, moral, policy, and societal standards.
  3. Develop a solid foundational grounding in networks, operating systems, file systems, hardware, and mobile devices specific to digital investigations and protecting smartphone resources from unauthorized activity.
  4. Work collaboratively with clients, management, and law enforcement to advance digital investigations as part of the criminal investigation process.
  5. Access and critically evaluate relevant technical and legal information and emerging industry trends.
  6. Effectively communicate the results of a computer, network, and data forensic analysis of a mobile device verbally, in writing, and during presentations.

Progression Criteria/Degree Requirements

Progression in the Cybersecurity  and Digital Forensics major leading to a Bachelor of Science degree requires students to:

  • Maintain a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA.
  • Achieve a grade of “C” or higher for all general business, major, and NU core requirements specific to the Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics major.
  • Complete a minimum of 122 credits.

School Repeat Policy

  • General business, major, and NU core requirements specific to Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics may only be repeated once. Students must have written permission from the Dean of the School of Business to take a course for the third time.
  • In total, only three different general business, major, or NU core requirements specific to Cybersecurity may be repeated.
  • Failure to earn a grade of “C” or better for general business, major, or NU core requirements specific to Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics may result in dismissal from the School.
