Liberal Studies, A.A.

An Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies is available to students based upon specific circumstances. This Liberal Studies does not overlap with existing degrees, instead it is designed to provide an educational experience that meets a student’s needs and interests. This program offers flexibility, independence, and academic rigor to undergraduate learners with the opportunity to draw on the curriculum’s resources across disciplines. 

Liberal Studies Learning Outcomes 

Upon completion of this program, a student will be able to: 

  • Explore, apply, and communicate research effectively both in writing and orally. 
  • Reflect meaningfully on the value of significant formative educational experiences. 
  • Understand and apply the value of a liberal education to their personal and career development. 

Progression Criteria/Degree Requirements 

Progression in the Liberal Studies major leading to an Associates of Arts degree requires students to: 

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.00 
  • Complete a minimum of 62 credits. 
  • Curriculum Requirements – Total Credits Required: 62 credits. 

A.A. Core Requirements: 35 Credits


Discipline Specific Courses: 18 Credits


Students take a minimum of 18 credits in one discipline or in two related disciplines

General Electives: 9 Credits


Total Credit Requirement: 62 Credits
